The Pork Pie: popularized in the 1960’s by the “ska” music scene, think of it as a Hombourg without the Crease or Google “pork pie” to see where the name came from). Bryan Lee Cranston as Walter White in Breaking Bad wears one.
The Cowboy Hat: big, small, “Ten Gallon”, made from felt or leather or straw, brim turned up at the sides, – who doesn’t know the Cowboy Hat? This hat was made popular outside the USA by the movies of the Wild West but you can buy them in most flea-markets in any big city in the world. Or you can just go to Texas.
Lets say Sam Elliots, and the movie, you named it! hes is one of the actors who is the most demand actor on wester movies, I read he was inducted in the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.
The Ivy or Flat Cap: usually made of wool or even leather or cotton. You can frequently spot Brad Pitt or Jason Statham wearing one. Kangol offers a broad range of these.
The Newsboy (Newsie) Cap: very similar to the Ivy Cap in that it can also be made of wool, leather or cotton. The difference is in the shape on the head. The Newsie tends to be looser with the material gathered at the top of the crown by a button. If you want to see the many styles of the Newsie you need look no further than the UK TV series Peaky Blinders and its handsome star Cillian Murphy. In fact, if you’re interested in hats, this is a great place to see them! You can see Newsies, Trilbies, Fedoras, Bowlers, Hombourgs and countless beautiful hats worn by the ladies of the series.
The Beret: a flat hat with no brim but frequently oversized on one or all sides to compensate. It is also made principally of wool or cotton and historically worn by soldiers and Boy Scouts. In fact it is a traditional farm workers hat in France and the Basque Country of Spain. Che Guevara popularized the Beret as a revolutionary symbol in the 1960’s and, for the ladies, it was briefly popular in the 1930’s/40s amongst movie stars like Marlene Dietrich and Lauren Bacall.
